** With eight new starters around him on offense, Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett is apt to think he has transferred to a new school. Barrett is the only skill position player returning.
** Two years ago he finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting after putting up some impressive numbers. Barrett has completed over 64% of his passes in 17 career starts (15 of them wins) while averaging over 220 yards per game in the air and another 82 yards on the ground. He has accounted for an average of 3.4 touchdowns per game.
** Now he’ll try to get it done with a different cast around him. The tailback is likely to be a freshman – Mike Weber. Sophomore wide receiver Noah Brown will prove to be Barrett’s favorite target.
** Ohio State is ranked 6th in the nation and tops in the Big Ten going into the season, just ahead of rival Michigan. This means that people know Ohio State, under coach Urban Meyer, is one of only a few teams which can just reload whenever necessary. Says Barrett: “I’m trying to help the younger guys get into our standard of how we play here at Ohio State and make sure they understand we don’t have rebuilding years. The expectations are not going to change becasue you all don’t have experience.
** Warm-up games in Ohio Stadium against Bowling Green and Tulsa precede a let’s-get-serious visit to 3rd-ranked Oklahoma on September 17.
** Barrett will be ready. What about the newcomers?
