Duke quarterback Thomas Sirk will miss the entire 2016 season after tearing his Achilles for the third time since 2013. Last year he led the Blue Devils in both passing and rushing.
Redshirt freshman David Jones will take over in all likelihood.

East Carolina has dismissed junior defensive end Darius Commissiong after federal animal cruelty charges were leveled against him.

Auburn safety Stephen Roberts was arrested for attempting to elude law enforcement officers and carrying a pistol without a permit.
This won’t help the cause when Auburn opens against #2 Clemson next week. Roberts played in all 13 games last year, starting the last four.

California opened the new season with a 51-31 win over Hawaii in Sydney, Australia. In Sydney it was today (Saturday), but the game was Friday evening in U.S. time zones.
Cal quarterback Davis Webb, a graduate transfer from pass-happy Texas Tech, completed 37 of 53 passes for 436 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for a score.
Receiver Chad Hansen had 14 receptions for 160 yards and two touchdowns. He was one of double-figures receivers to catch passes from Webb.

Sean Maguire has returned from foot surgery almost a month before expected for Florida State. He was battling Deondre Francois for the starting quarterback job before his injury. Francois will probably start the season opener against Ole Miss next weekend.
