** Here are four new head football coaches who have no experience as a head coach or a coordinator at the FBS level:
** Mike Jinks at Bowling Green. He replaces Dino Babers, who went to Syracuse. Jinks served only three seasons as an assistant at Texas Tech before taking over at BG. How well did he learn Kliff Kingsbury’s offense, and will the Falcons be able to play enough defense to win in the MAC?
** Mike Neu at Ball State. He replaces Pete Lembo. As a quarterback at Ball State, Neu was the MAC’s Player of the Year in 1993. Can he become the MAC’s Coach of the Year? He’s definitely at home in Muncie, Indiana, and that should help.
** Frank Wilson at Texas-San Antonio. He’s widely known as a great recruiter, and there’s a bevy of talent in San Antonio and environs. But can he coach too ?
** Matt Viator at Louisiana-Monroe. He was the head coach at McNeese State for 10 years and went 78-33 with no losing seasons. Of the four men listed here, he’s the most likely to build a successful program.
** Schools that hire coaches with little or no experience need to be patient. Here’s hoping things work out for the newbies and the universities mentioned above.
