Granito, Hanks and Sills

**  The new athletic trainer for football at Michigan is David Granito.  He replaces Paul Schmidt, who has been employed full-time with the Michigan football program since 1986 and was promoted to head athletic trainer and rehabilitation specialist.
**  Granito has been an athletic trainer for the New England Patriots since 2002.

**  Merton Hanks has been named associate commissioner of Conference USA.  He will be in charge of all baseball and football operations, including managing officiating, game operations, scheduling, player conduct and player safety.  He will also oversee public affairs.
**  Hanks worked for the NFL for 13 seasons.  He served as vice-president of football operations and compliance from 2011 until present.
**  Hanks was a three-time all-pro at safety for the San Francisco 49ers.
**  He played his college ball from 1987 to 1990 at Iowa, where he was both a both cornerback and a  safety.  He made all-Big Ten.

**  Sophomore wide receiver David Sills will transfer from West Virginia to chase his dream of playing quarterback.  He had moved to receiver as a freshman.  Sills will now attend El Camino Community College in California, where he will be eligible immediately since El Camino is a junior college.
**  Sills caught the winning touchdown pass in West Virginia’s wild 43-42 victory over Arizona State in the Cactus Bowl earlier this year.
**  Sills could have played receiver at West Virginia.  He worked out at both quarterback and receiver in the spring.  But he was no better than fourth string as a QB, behind Skyler Howard, William Crest, Jr. and Chris Chugunov.
**  Sills is best known for committing to Southern California and then-coach Lane Kiffin while he was in the seventh grade!
