Mississippi will reduce scholarships in football because of misconduct in academics and recruiting in women’s basketball, football and track. The penalties are self-imposed and will include the loss of 11 scholarships over the next four years (2016 – 2019).
An NCAA investigation into violations at Ole Miss began back in 2012. Laremy Tunsil, a first-round NFL draft pick last month, has admitted to receiving money from a coach.
Mississippi hopes the self-imposed penalties will suffice as far as the NCAA is concerned and that a dreaded postseason ban in football will not be forthcoming.
