Will Smith

**  Will Smith, who played defensive end for 2002 national champion Ohio State, died of multiple gunshot wounds in an apparent road rage incident in the Lower Garden District of New Orleans Saturday night.  Smith, 34, leaves behind a wife and three kids.
**  Cardell Hayes, 28, has been charged with second degree murder.  Hayes drove a Hummer H2 into the rear end of Smith’s Mercedes G63 around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.  After the two argued, Hayes shot Smith and Smith’s wife Rachel, 33.  She was hit in the leg and taken to the hospital.   Smith dies at the scene.
**  Smith was drafted 18th overall by the New Orleans Saints in 2004.  He graduated in 2005 from Ohio State with a degree in criminology.
**  Smith’s college coach, Jim Tressel, is now the president of Youngstown State University.  He took to  Twitter to write, “Love & prayers to the Smith family, Buckeye family and Saint family.  Our brother Will  –  humble, caring, selfless family man.  We love you.”
**  Mark Dantonio, now the head coach at Michigan State, was the defensive coordinator in Columbus when Smith played for the Buckeyes.  He also wrote on Twitter.  “Our thoughts and prayers go out to former OSU and Saints’ Will Smith; his family and teammates.  He touched so many lives.  Tragic.  Shocked.”
**  Senseless violence and needless death occurs most every day.  Only when the victim is someone famous do we really take notice.
