** Oregon State starting quarterback Seth Collins will transfer. Why? Likely because coach Gary Andersen planned to move him to receiver. Andersen favors Utah State transfer Darell Garrettson at quarterback heading into spring ball.
** Collins’ numbers for 2-10 Oregon State: 936 yards passing, 6 touchdowns, 4 interceptions. Also, 580 yards rushing and 8 scores.
** Collins started seven of Oregon State’s 12 games, missing five with a knee injury. Those five games saw Nick Mitchell start behind center for the Beavers, but Mitchell has transferred out too.
He’s headed for Division II’s Dixie State in Utah, where he’ll be eligible to play right away.
** If the freshman Collins goes to another FBS school, he’ll have to sit out a year. He could play right away if he goes to a lower division, including FCS. He also has a redshirt season to work with if he so desires.
** Oklahoma backup quarterback Cody Thomas is quitting football to focus on baseball. He was drafted in the 30th round of the MLB Draft in 2013 but instead went to Oklahoma to play both football and baseball. Thomas started three games in 2014 when Trevor Knight was injured.
** With Knight having transferred to Texas A&M, Oklahoma will be a bit thin at the position. The Sooners have starter Baker Mayfield and not much behind him.
