The Old Ball Coach, Bevo, Deiondre Porter, VERs and POWs for 10-15 and 10-16

Steve Spurrier  probably won’t coach again because of his disdain for the job’s recruiting component.  In Tuesday’s news conference to announce his immediate resignation Spurrier, 70, said , “I was the best coach for this job 11 years ago, but I’m not today.”
Enjoy your retirement, Coach.  We hope you dance.

Texas mascot Bevo XIV, a longhorn steer, has been diagnosed with cancer  –  specifically, bovine leukemia virus  –  and will retire.  Bevo XIV had been on the job since 2004 and oversaw some big events, including the January 4, 2006 Rose Bowl victory over U.S.C. that brought Texas a national title and the second inauguration of former President George W. Bush.

Florida’s Deiondre Porter, one of the Gators’ best players on special teams, has been arrested for aggravated assault and suspended from the team indefinitely.  Porter, a freshman, has been charged with four felonies of the second or third degree.  Those charges are:  aggravated battery, firing a weapon into a building or vehicle, and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
Porter allegedly held a handgun to the head of his pregnant girlfriend and fired a shot in her direction during a late September argument.
