New Coaches for 2015: Gary Andersen at Oregon State

Name:  Gary Andersen
Team:  Oregon State Beavers
Replaces:  Mike Riley, who went to Nebraska after the Cornhuskers fired Bo Pelini.
Previous Head Coaching Experience:  Southern Utah in 2003, Utah State from 2009 through 2012,
.       Wisconsin in 2013 and 2014.  That’s seven years as a head coach in the college ranks.  Record:
.       49-38, but 30-9 over the past three seasons.
Personal:  Age 51.  Wife Stacey.  Three sons, the younger two of which are twins.
** Andersen’s son Chasen, a freshman walk-on at Wisconsin, learned of his dad’s departure for
.    Oregon State along with the rest of the Badgers.
** In what seems a parallel move at best, Andersen took the job in Corvallis without even visiting
.    Oregon State’s campus.
** Speculation is that Andersen jumped ship because the high academic standards at Wisconsin
.    made recruiting difficult.  Or maybe he didn’t appreciate Barry Alvarez still being very much
.    around.  Or maybe he just prefers the West to the Midwest.
